PROJECT: New-build Family Housing

SUMMARY: 48 family houses across five sites, including 2, 3 and 4 bed dwellings. All but one of the sites were brownfield sites previously occupied by now-demolished Oldham Council stock and these projects are delivering replacement homes for Oldham families. Sites varied in nature from steep infill plots to flat hill-top locations: the smallest accommodated just 2 dwellings and the largest was for 25 houses.

Triangle’s appointment was not simply to design five housing projects, but to create a simple but recognisable house-style for FCHO, a new registered provider managing Oldham’s previous council stock, using affordable but good quality traditional materials to create a strong and consistent visual ‘brand’.

SERVICES: Full architectural services from inception to planning submission for First Choice Homes.  All construction drawings for contractors at post-contract stage.

In addition to the full appointment for all five sites, Triangle were commissioned separately to prepare a masterplan for the wider area containing the largest of the sites. The purpose was to set this first phase within a broader development framework, into which private-sector partners could eventually be introduced to broaden tenure mix in that area.
